Not too long ago I was given a task. One that I was both happy to do, as well as completely stumped on. After asking my fellow producers and not getting anything back, I decided to run this on my own (although that may be an exaggeration). I would like to bring forward the thoughtful invitation to those who are out there that may want to contribute, to take it upon themselves to find it in their hearts and souls to help me out on some of the things. As the title indicates this entire post is about something nerdy, and by nerdy I mean Video games, computer games, anime, manga, tv shows, movies, books, comics, cartoons, and of course anything else that might happen at comic con.
Once I had decided on doing this with I realized I needed a first topic. One of which was so epically amazing…just kidding I don’t want to make it too terribly hard on myself. Anyway, I thought what is a good way to start this little segment off then to talk about a TV show, one that is amazingly nerdy in every way, but has enough comedic sense to draw in the normal people? A show that has an amazing cast and crew and really helps you understand the cosmos as well as what a lightyear really is. One that even just a minute ago taught me something new in its quirky nerdy way.
Any guesses on what it could be? Any at all? Well ok I will just explain it then. The Big Bang Theory. I learn so much from them it is not even funny, which is slightly ironic because the show is very funny. The show synopsis states:
Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists, the kind of “beautiful minds” that understand how the universe works. But none of that genius help them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny moves in next door. Sheldon, Leonard’s roommate, is quite content spending his nights playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends, fellow CalTech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. However, Leonard sees in Penny a whole new universe of possibilities… including love.
For those of you who didn’t know about the show, well now you know. Now when they first wrote this I am sure they, and by they I mean the writers and producers, had no idea as to how big the show was going to be. Nine seasons later and here we are, one of the most popular shows on the network. However, I am not here to talk statistics, yet, what I am here to do is to talk about the show, the characters, what they represent to me as a nerd. A starting point you could say, simply because I don’t have any idea as to what to write.
Sense 2011, or probably sooner, as that is the only date I could find that is the earliest, Big Bang Theory has made appearances at Comicon. With various panels to answer your questions, last year the writers where up and answered some of your questions. For those of you who didn’t make it to Comicon, you are not alone, the panel consisted of again the writers: David Saltzberg, Jeremy Howe, Tara Hernandez, Anthony Del Broccolo, Saladin Patterson, Maria Ferrari, Steve Holland, Jim Reynolds, Eric Kaplan, David Goetsch, the scientist guy, the Big Bang Theory Executive Producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Bill Prady and Kunal Nayyar as commentator with a guest appearance from Mayim Bialik.
The conversation consisted of them talking about the Back to the Future Equation. How that came about I believe was the question. They answer with it was actually a conversation between the writers that lead in to the conversation about tenses which is what really made that episode. Now while I did follow it in the show in its weirdly correct way. That’s part of the reason of what makes this show so amazing is that the writers think of all the different things that you would not think to considered. I do not want to ruin it for you as the argument non argument is better served on the Big Bang Theory. After all the retroactively self-negated past perfect is a very complicated science to get down one that I feel like Eric Kaplan has thought a lot about, apparently. They also include all other real life happenings that made it into this season. Like the drone conundrum, where Howard has overwhelmed himself and was taught a valuable lesson.
I would go into more detail or more of Comicon panel however I feel like you could just move on to other aspects of the show. Like the season finale of season 8. How they leave us hanging? Perhaps if you have not seen it you should do that before reading it further.
It ends with Sheldon and Amy taking a break from their relationship, Sheldon of course trying to find out what to do with the ring he has for one could presume is Amy. Leonard and penny off to get married, in Vegas, while Leonard tells Penny of his mistake while he was away on the expedition, which was the end of season 7. Howard and Bernie, not kicking Stuart out of Howards house, which he inherited from his mother. Leaving with Raj and Emily, Raj not wanting to break up with Emily who he is a little creeped out by and Emily being a little creepy.
What’s is going to happen with Leonard and Penny will they get married, are Sheldon and Amy still together. Is Stuart way overstaying his welcome, and will Raj man up and end it with Emily or is he going to work his way through her overwhelming creepiness that she is very happy about creeping him out. Honestly I think she is too happy with how much she can make him squirm and get the heebee jeebee’s.
Well the answers are in. Penny and Leonard get married, Amy and Sheldon have officially ended their relationship, and he proceeded to try and return the ring to his mother. Raj is still with Emily and Howard and Bernie still have Stuart living in the house. We are currently in the fourth episode with one more tonight, I am about one episode behind on the show, because this post is getting longer I will tag to be continued…
